Camp Info

Austin Trombone Camp is an instructional camp, with a curriculum designed to help students increase their skills for performing, rehearsing, practicing, and auditioning, from professional players and teachers from around the country. Students will have an intensive learning experience, while also having fun becoming better musicians.

What should trombonists expect at Austin Trombone Camp?

ATC is a four-day camp designed to provide an educational but relaxed atmosphere. Upon check-in, all students will play a brief audition for a camp faculty member to help place them into ability-based ensembles and masterclasses. Every student will be assigned to a small chamber group and assigned parts in the mass trombone choir.  All groups will rehearse each day and perform on the showcase on the final day of camp.

NEW FOR 2026! Students wishing to be considered for an Honors level ensemble, will need to submit a separate video audition of music. (Music will be available on this website two weeks before the start of camp with instructions and a video due date.)

On the second day of camp, we begin the Trombone Olympics! There will be a different event each day and students will compete in individual competitions by grade level. Medals are awarded in each division for each event. Trombone Olympics participation is not required but is highly encouraged to help students practice performing in front of an audience, in a fun atmosphere.

At the end of the final day, everyone is invited to attend the final showcase concert! This is a celebration of all the students’ hard work throughout the week!

Schedule

Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. each day.  Doors will close 15 min after the end of camp. Please have your students picked up when the doors are closed. The faculty will not leave until all students have been picked up.

Monday will begin with a check in at the Band Hall, followed by a brief, one (1) minute sight-reading audition (for those who did not submit recordings for an honors level ensemble.) The audition is used to place students with other students of similar abilities.

Each day, students will sign in by picking up their name tag.

If a student will not be present any day for camp, please let us know. Some students are placed on individual parts, or even solos, for the music they will play on the final concert.

Concert!  Middle School camp will have their concert at 10:45 am on Thursday. High School camp will have their concert at 3:45 pm on Thursday. Both concerts will be in the Band Hall. Concert dress will be the camp T-shirts that students will receive on the first day of camp.
